In brief
You can browse and use the core quote experience as a guest. Sign in with Apple is optional. DotQuot does not sell your personal information or run third-party advertising. The iPhone app does not include advertising, tracking, fingerprinting, or third-party analytics SDKs. With your permission, this website uses Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity for website analytics.
Most settings, saved quotes, liked quotes, notification schedules, and similar preferences stay on your device. Your Dots history can sync through your private iCloud account so it remains available across your Apple devices.
Information stored on your device
DotQuot may store saved and liked quote IDs, appearance preferences, notification schedules, and similar app settings using iOS local storage. Widgets may use shared local app storage so they can display quotes outside the app.
You can remove local information using available controls in the app or by deleting the app. Device backups are controlled by your Apple and iCloud settings.
Private iCloud sync
When iCloud is available, DotQuot stores your Dots history in your private CloudKit database. A Dot can include its calendar date, quote ID, quote text, author, category, and creation date.
Private CloudKit data belongs to your iCloud account and is used to provide Dots history and sync. During a temporary network outage, the CloudKit-backed store can keep Dots on your device and sync them after connectivity returns. If DotQuot cannot open private iCloud storage, it may use separate local-only storage; Dots created there are not guaranteed to migrate automatically to iCloud. This sync is independent of Sign in with Apple.
Dots history remains in your private iCloud storage until you remove DotQuot's data through your iCloud storage settings. Signing out of DotQuot or revoking Sign in with Apple does not delete this data because iCloud sync is separate.
Sign in with Apple
If you choose to sign in, Apple handles authentication. DotQuot does not ask for or store your Apple ID password. The app stores Apple's app-specific user identifier securely in the iOS Keychain to confirm sign-in status and respond if Apple revokes the credential.
DotQuot requests your name but not your email address. Any name Apple provides is used only for the greeting inside the app and is stored with the app-specific identifier in the iOS Keychain.
DotQuot does not create a server-side account or send your Sign in with Apple information to the quote service. You can continue as a guest, and Sign in with Apple does not control your private iCloud Dots database. When signed in, you can choose Delete Account under About → DotQuot to permanently remove the identifier and display name from the device and return the app to its signed-out state. Signing out removes the same locally stored information. DotQuot also clears it after detecting that Apple has revoked the credential.
Notifications, widgets, Photos, and sharing
Quote notifications are scheduled only when you choose to create or enable them. Their schedules, categories, and pause choices are stored on your device. You can turn notifications off in DotQuot or iOS Settings.
If you save a quote card or wallpaper, iOS may request Photos access. Content shared through the iOS share sheet goes only to the destination you choose and is then governed by that destination's privacy practices.
Quotes and attribution
DotQuot does not claim ownership of quotations merely because they appear in the app. Some quotations have unknown, uncertain, or unavailable attribution. If you believe a quote is incorrectly attributed or should be removed, contact us and we will review it.
Support purchases
Monthly Supporter and Yearly Supporter are auto-renewing subscriptions. Lifetime Supporter is a non-renewing, one-time purchase. Each option unlocks supporter access, including category color styles, and helps fund continued development. Current localized prices are displayed inside the app before purchase. Apple processes each purchase through the App Store, handles payment details, and provides DotQuot with the transaction status needed to deliver supporter access. DotQuot does not receive your full payment-card details.
DotQuot checks verified App Store transactions to determine Supporter access. The app may securely cache the most recently verified active subscription entitlement in the iOS Keychain so eligible features can continue working when the App Store is temporarily unavailable. This cache can remain until the subscription expiration date recorded in the verified transaction. It is removed when it expires or earlier when StoreKit confirms that the entitlement is no longer active.
Monthly and Yearly subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled and can be managed through Apple Account settings. Lifetime Supporter does not renew. Restore Purchases is available in the app so StoreKit can check eligible transactions again.
Quote content service
DotQuot downloads published quote content using a GET request to its hosted content service. The request does not include your saved or liked quotes, Dots history, notification schedules, Sign in with Apple identifier, or display name.
The quote service is hosted by Vercel. Like other hosting providers, Vercel may temporarily process standard network and operational information, such as IP address, user agent, request time, path, request identifier, and security events, to deliver, protect, and diagnose the service. Vercel's standard runtime-log retention depends on the hosting plan and can be up to 30 days. DotQuot does not use this information for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Information you choose to send us
If you contact us, we receive the details you provide, such as your name, email address, message, and attachments. We use that information to respond, provide support, protect DotQuot, or comply with law, and keep it only as long as reasonably needed.
The website contact form prepares a message in your email application. DotQuot does not save its contents in a website database.
Feature requests and votes
The roadmap creates a random identifier in your browser so it can remember your votes. Before a live vote is stored, that identifier is converted into a one-way cryptographic hash. It is used to count votes and reduce duplicate voting, not for advertising or cross-site tracking.
Voting data is stored with Supabase while the roadmap remains active, unless longer retention is needed for security or legal obligations. Public feature submissions are not accepted; roadmap ideas are curated from recurring themes in App Store reviews and feedback sent to DotQuot.
To reduce automated or repeated vote changes, DotQuot converts the request's network address and anonymous voting identifier into separate one-way cryptographic hashes. Raw network addresses are not stored in the roadmap database. These rate-limit records are used only for abuse prevention and are removed after no more than two days.
Website and service providers
With your permission, this website uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use its pages. Google Analytics may process page views, routes visited, referral information, approximate location, device and browser information, and engagement information using cookies and pseudonymous identifiers.
Microsoft Clarity helps us understand how visitors navigate and interact with the website. Clarity may process page views, clicks, scrolling, pointer movement, device and browser information, performance details, and a representation of page content for session playback. Contact-form fields are explicitly masked from Clarity recordings.
Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity are not loaded until you select Allow analytics. If you decline, DotQuot does not load either tracking script. You can review or change your choice through Cookie settings in the website footer. Google and Microsoft process analytics information under their respective privacy terms.
The website uses local browser storage for theme preference, analytics consent, and the anonymous roadmap-voting identifier. Hosting and network providers may process basic technical logs, such as IP address, browser type, request time, and security events, to deliver and protect the site.
Apple may process information when you use the App Store, iCloud, Sign in with Apple, notifications, Photos, or other Apple services under Apple's own terms and privacy policies.
Sharing, security, and retention
We do not sell or rent personal information. We disclose information only when needed to operate a service you request, to service providers under appropriate safeguards, to protect rights and safety, or when required by law.
We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the information handled, but no storage or transmission method is completely secure. Saved and liked quote IDs, preferences, notification schedules, and cached quote content remain locally until you remove or replace them, or delete the app. Correspondence is retained only while needed for support, recordkeeping, security, or legal obligations.
Your Sign in with Apple identifier and display name remain in the iOS Keychain until you sign out, choose Delete Account under About → DotQuot, or DotQuot detects credential revocation. Because Keychain items can survive app deletion, use Delete Account before deleting DotQuot if you want these items removed immediately. StoreKit entitlement details remain until the recorded expiration date or until StoreKit reports that access is no longer active.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may ask what personal information we hold about you, request correction or deletion, withdraw consent where applicable, or raise a privacy concern. We may need to verify a request before acting on it. Most local app activity is available only on your device and cannot be retrieved by DotQuot.
To revoke Sign in with Apple access after deleting DotQuot's locally stored account data, open Settings, tap your name, then Sign in with Apple, select DotQuot, and choose Delete. To remove private iCloud Dots data, open Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, Storage or Manage Account Storage, and select DotQuot. Using Delete Account in DotQuot does not cancel a subscription; subscriptions remain managed through your Apple Account. Apple retains App Store transaction records under Apple's own policies.
Children's privacy
DotQuot is not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through website analytics. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
Changes and contact
